Substantial remedial renovation
This single story villa is located on a secluded Mt Eden site and is our first project with Christopher Wood Architects. The house sits in the middle of a generous garden allowing for a flow from the wrap around verandas to the gardens. This was a major remedial project that required the releveling of the existing floor structures and the demolition and rebuilding of areas that had been tacked on to the building poorly over the years.
The construction of the verandas is unusual in that the roof structure is supported by turned posts. The intention was to remove and recycle these elements but as is common with many older structures the posts were in no condition to recycle resulting in us turning new elements to replace the existing.
The areas of the house that we have completed are now essentially new with much of the building’s structure being upgraded and all new services being run.
Chris did a fantastic job with the design. With his eye for detail the internal spaces are a real stand out. As with many of our projects the main exterior façade looks similar to the original building with the new extensions and joinery elements adding to the building’s appeal.
It was great to work with Chris and the owners to bring ideas to fruition.
