Landmark Home Renovation

Restoration of an inner city listed building

Previously know as Papillon House in Herne Bay, this property had been a run down boarding house. Over the coarse of many years numerous reconfigurations and poorly executed additions had reduced this grand old lady into a tired and wanting dwelling.

The new owners brief was an instruction to return this property to its former glory. In conjunction with the owners, Lloyd Macomber from Salmond Reed Architects and Angela Melville Interior Designer we completed extensive interior and exterior renovations and restoration.

The building was gutted, new basement areas were formed that required the existing structures to be propped while new strengthening works were completed. The scope included reconfiguring bedrooms and forming ensuites. A new kitchen was designed and installed into a new open plan living area. The existing staircase and balustrade was refurbished along with several fireplaces retaining the authenticity of the building.

To complete the project extensive landscaping was done and the existing decks and verandahs were rebuilt; standing seam lead roofs were also refurbished.
